Wheels & Wooden Chassis Rails
Plan 3 - Episode 10

In this episode of the Flatbed Felix Pedal Car Build, Vaughan kicks things off by customizing and attaching the wheels, bringing the build one step closer to rolling! Then, it’s over to Ezio, who begins constructing the wooden subframe and chassis rails that will support the seat and truck bed. It’s the perfect blend of mechanical and woodworking skills, all in one episode! Skills You'll Learn Vaughan demonstrates how to properly remove bearings from the wheels and install brass bushings to fit the axle. He makes it look easy while turning the bushings on a lathe, but also shows a simple hand tool method for those without access to machinery. On the woodworking side, Ezio shows how to manufacture the wooden chassis rails from templates using a variety of tools, including hand saws, drop saws, band saws, jigsaws, and chisels. Whether you have access to all these tools or just a few, you’ll be able to follow along and complete the build. Ezio also covers how to create smooth curves and chamfers using a chisel and planer. For quicker, more precise results, he uses a bobbin sander to achieve clean, accurate curves. Additionally, he demonstrates how to drill holes to the correct depth using speedball tip drills. Tools You'll Need To follow along, you’ll need a tape measure, square, pencil or marker, socket set, hex key set, spanner set, hammer, linisher, hand saw, hand planer, drop saw, power drill and drill set. Optional tools include a drilling machine, bobbin sander, disc sander, band saw, vice, and workbench. Be sure to wear gloves, safety goggles, and hearing protection for safety.
