Door Latches, Stops & Check Strap, Seat
Plan 6 - Episode 30

In Episode 30 of the Flatbed Felix Pedal Car Build, Vaughan fabricates and installs the door latches, door stops, and leather check straps. Meanwhile, Ezio builds the wooden seat frame, preparing it for upholstery. Vaughan wraps up the episode by fitting the final components and installing the seat. Skills You'll Learn Vaughan builds the door latches from sheet steel and flat bar, using basic metalworking techniques to bend and shape the parts. He also creates threaded door handles and welds everything together, producing two matching latch sets—one for each door. Following the plans, he installs the door stops that Ezio had previously made. The leather check straps help prevent the doors from damaging the guards. Vaughan uses a leather hole punch and eyelet pliers to prepare the straps, then screws them into place while allowing for spring-back movement. Ezio constructs the seat from 19mm plywood. It’s a simple project—he cuts the panels and joins them with screws. To finish up, Vaughan briefly explains how he had the seat professionally upholstered. Tools You'll Need You’ll need a tape measure, ruler, square, pencil or marker, center punch, F-clamps, track saw, hand saw, linisher, disc sander, screwdriver, drill and bit set, countersink set, a vice, a welder, and a sturdy workbench. Always wear gloves, safety goggles, hearing protection, and full welding PPE when working.
