Drivetrain - Part 2 & Steering
Plan 2 - Episode 4

In Episode 4 of the Flatbed Felix Pedal Car Build, Vaughan finishes the drivetrain and kicks off the steering system. He installs axles with pillow bearing blocks, breaks and rejoins the drive chain to the correct length, and aligns everything for smooth power transfer. Then, he bends and threads the front stub axles and machines custom bushings to keep the steering column moving freely. This episode wraps up the key drivetrain elements and sets the stage for building the steering wheel. Skills You’ll Learn: You’ll practice fitting axles to bearings, using a chain breaker, bending round bar, accurate measuring, drilling, deburring, MIG welding, cutting with a bandsaw, drilling & tapping, and different methods for press-fitting bushings. Tools You’ll Need: Tape measure, square, scriber or marker, clamps, angle grinder, drills & taps, metal files or deburring tools, power drill or drill press, MIG welder, vice, hammers, bar bender, and basic hand tools. A lathe or mill is optional. Always wear gloves, goggles, and hearing protection. This episode is packed with practical techniques to help move your build forward—no matter your workshop setup.
